It now seems like a long time ago that athletic director Chris del Conte had the official announcement that the Texas football program would be parting ways with head coach Tom Herman in favor of Steve Sarkisian. Back on Jan. 2, the Texas program took to a new direction by hiring the former Alabama Crimson Tide/reigning Broyles Award winner Sark.

As a reigning National Champion with the Crimson Tide and the architect of the offense that produced the Heisman Trophy winner (wide receiver Devonta Smith) and another finalist in quarterback Mac Jones, Sark seems like a good hire on the Forty Acres. Texas fans also seem to be very excited about what’s to come for this program starting this fall.

Sark and the Longhorns already found a spark on the recruiting trail and in the NCAA Transfer Portal up to this point of the offseason. Multiple key additions to the team out of the transfer portal and two potent forming recruiting classes back the excitement for the Sark hire thus far.

Some of the key transfer portal additions so far this offseason for Sark and the Longhorns are former LSU linebacker Ray Thornton, Alabama linebacker Ben Davis, McNesse State cornerback Darion Dunn, and Notre Dame edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo. More could be to come for the Longhorns.

But this is also a time to reflect on what went right, and what went wrong, for the Longhorns out of the portal thus far. Here’s a look back at four of the bigger transfer portal misses for Sark since taking over as Texas head coach more than four months ago.
