Texas was looking into what the former Florida State Seminoles talented four-star recruit and redshirt sophomore safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey brought to the table for them out of the transfer portal at one point of the offseason. Lost depth at the safety position this year brought about the need to add someone like Woodbey out of the portal.

The transfer portal was a focal point this offseason for the Longhorns in the defensive backfield.

Sark and new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph did get a nice addition to the secondary in Dunn. It was actually Herman and former Texas defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash that landed a commitment from Dunn out of the transfer portal around the Early Signing Period last December. But Sark and Joseph did a nice job to hang onto his commitment through the coaching turnover in January.

Woodbey did wind up taking his talents to join the Boston College Eagles, while staying in the ACC after leaving Florida State, back on Dec. 15.

It was a long time ago that Woodbey committed to Boston College out of the portal.

There is an asterisk next to Woodbey’s name on this list since he was committed to Boston College before Sark was hired. This goes down as just a sizable transfer portal miss for the Longhorns during the early stages of this cycle of hitting the transfer market.

Texas will be dealing with the loss of safeties like junior and former elite five-star recruit Caden Sterns, senior Chris Brown, and freshman Xavion Alford so far this offseason. We’ll see how Texas deals with all of these depth losses entering summer workouts and fall camp.
