The running back position should be solidified for Sark and the Longhorns at least through the 2022 season. Texas brings back star sophomore running back and former five-star recruit Bijan Robinson this year along with the former converted quarterback Roschon Johnson. That is a really solid running back duo for the Longhorns this year.

One running back that the Longhorns were after a few months back that has a lot of potential that he brings to the table is the former five-star recruit and Clemson Tigers freshman Demarkcus Bowman. It was the Florida Gators and head coach Dan Mullen, though, that would eventually land the commitment of Bowman out of the portal.

There’s not much proven game action that Bowman has under his belt. It was mostly about buying into the promise that Bowman has in his skill set that brought so many blue bloods to pursue him this offseason.

But Bowman never got a consistent workload during his brief time under head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers thanks to a plethora of running back depth sparked by star Travis Etienne. In just bits and pieces of two games played last season with the Tigers, Bowman had nine carries for 32 rushing yards and no rushing scores.

Coming out of Lakeland High School in Florida during the 2020 recruiting cycle, Bowman ranked as the nation’s No. 20 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 4 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite).

Texas did have the advantage of bringing a former primary recruiter for the Crimson Tide to their coaching staff if they wanted to pursue Bowman. New Texas special teams coordinator Jeff Banks was recruiting Bowman with Alabama. And Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton was the primary recruiter after Bowman when the Longhorns were pursuing him out of high school.
