Most of the action on the trail for the 2022 Texas football recruiting is likely waiting to take place during and immediately following official visit season. Official visits are scheduled to begin next month around the college football recruiting landscape. Texas had a good run on the recruiting trail for their 2022 and 2023 classes in the past four or five months. New head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff provided a nice spark on the recruiting trail for Texas since he was hired back on Jan. 2 to replace former head coach Tom Herman.

The Longhorns 2022 class was largely headed in a downward spiral in the last couple of months under Herman’s direction as head coach. There was a point in time when Herman’s 2022 class looked like it could contend top rank at the top in the nation. But losing the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers last fall wreaked havoc on the Longhorns 2022 class altogether.

Now under Sark’s direction, the Longhorns 2022 class has newfound momentum. And they have another talented quarterback commit to build around in four-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy.

What QB could supplement Maalik Murphy in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class?

But should the Longhorns try and find another quarterback commit to pursue?

A lesson was learned in the Longhorns 2021 class when four-star quarterback Jalen Milroe flipped from Texas to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Since the Longhorns didn’t have a firm backup option in the 2021 class, they had to turn to flipping the commitment of the Iowa State Cyclones three-star quarterback pledge Charles Wright.

Getting a second signal caller committed in the 2022 class might not be a bad option just for insurance policy purposes. Here’s a look into four 2022 quarterback prospects that the Longhorns can target to supplement Murphy in this class.
