A lot of discussion of late for the Texas basketball program concerned how new head coach Chris Beard will fair on the recruiting trail in the coming months. The former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard was tossed into a difficult situation on the recruiting trail, with not much time left to replenish the talent pool in his 2021 class.

That’s why it is so imperative for Beard and the Longhorns to get it right both in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason, and for their 2022 recruiting class. Texas has yet to land a single commit in their 2022 class. And it might take some time for that to happen since getting the right prospects scouted out and prioritized isn’t an easy process.

Texas did manage to get one commit in their 2021 class after all of the previous pledges in the mix bolted. The Longhorns were left with no signees after the departure of former head coach Shaka Smart two months back. Smart left the Forty Acres to take over as the next head coach of the Marquette Golden Eagles in his home state of Wisconsin.

New targets up for the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class under Chris Beard

What better way for Texas to start off for their 2022 class than getting a commitment from a five-star prospect. If Texas could start off this class even with a blue-chip recruit, let alone a five-star prospect, Beard would have a lot of momentum moving forward in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

It seems like only a matter of time before Beard is settled in enough with the Longhorns to get a 2022 commit in the mix. Here’s a look at a prediction of who the first five-star commit could be in the Longhorns 2022 class.
