Texas had one pretty clear five-star target in their sights dating back to the days under Smart as head coach for their 2022 class. The elite five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy 6-foot-4 and 185 pound shooting guard Keyonte George would be a good place for the Longhorns to build a foundation for the rest of their 2022 class.

In fact, George could be the perfect way for the Longhorns to start off their 2022 class, given the raw talent level he brings to the table. Even the lone signee in the Longhorns 2020 class, the former elite five-star Vandegrift power forward Greg Brown, didn’t have quite the same recruiting ranking as George.

When Beard was the Texas Tech head coach, having a solid shooting guard/wing that could spark the offense usually kept his team playing at peak performance. Texas Tech regularly produced lottery-caliber shooting guards/wings too during Beard’s tenure in Lubbock.

There should be a lot that appeals to George about potentially giving his commitment to the Longhorns. If he doesn’t elect to pass on the traditional college hoops route and go pro immediately, Texas would be a good landing spot for him.

Texas is one of nine schools on the offer sheet of George as of the night of May 19. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Arizona Wildcats, Baylor Bears, Kansas Jayhawks, NC State Wolfpack, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas Tech.

Moreover, George ranks as the nation’s No. 6 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall shooting guard and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 14 high school prospect, and the top overall shooting guard and prospect out of Texas.
