Among the most high-profile targets of the Longhorns 2022 class to watch heading into the summer months is the uber-talented four-star 6-foot and 190 pound St. James wide receiver Shazz Preston. The Saint James, LA, native is one of the top rated prospects in his state, and one that Sark and the Longhorns look to be heavily prioritizing at this point of the 2022 cycle.

Preston is scheduled to have his official visit with the Longhorns on June 18. Texas is one of two schools to currently have an official visit scheduled with Preston. The other is the USC Trojans, which will host him in California on June 4.

But it appears that the school to watch this summer in pursuit of the commitment of Preston is the LSU Tigers. While LSU doesn’t have an official visit scheduled with Preston yet, they do have an unofficial next month.

Preston is reportedly set to have unofficial visits next month with the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and LSU.

The lone 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Preston as of the morning of May 20 has his commitment projected to go to head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking LSU to land Preston.

Texas will have a dogfight ahead if they want to make up ground in the race to land a commitment from Preston. But they’re not officially out of it yet, since they are likely still among the top schools for Preston and they have a visit scheduled.

Moreover, Preston ranks as the nation’s No. 67 2022 high school prospect, No. 8 wide receiver, and No. 4 prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 98 high school prospect, No. 13 wide receiver, and No. 5 prospect out of Louisiana.
