Texas Football: RB commit Jaydon Blue opting out of senior season
In some of the more surprising news of the offseason so far concerning any of the commits in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, one of the top prospects is reportedly opting out of his senior season (per Horns247). Texas is not going to see their top-ranked commit in the 2022 class play during his senior campaign, which is something you don’t see very often.
It is reported that the highly touted four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue will forego playing in his last season of high school football. This report cited the workload that Blue had with Klein Cain in the past few seasons, and wanting to get his body ready to play at the next level.
New head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns new staff heard from Blue through the proper channels, notifying them that he would be making this move for next season. Blue has already proved himself playing at the high school level, and it sounds like he intends to enroll early at Texas next offseason.
In the past two high school seasons with Klein Cain, Blue had nearly 450 rushing attempts. In total, he had 432 rushing attempts for 3,767 rushing yards, 46 rushing touchdowns, and 29 receptions for 196 receiving yards, and no touchdown catches.
Texas originally landed a commitment from Blue back on Feb. 2, 2021. He is now the top-ranked commit in the Longhorns 2022 class, ahead of the talented four-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy.
Blue gave his pledge to the Longhorns over offers from nearly three dozen other schools. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.
Moreover, Blue ranks as the nation’s No. 48 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 12 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 31 high school prospect, top overall running back, and the No. 8 prospect out of Texas.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. The most recent commit in the Longhorns 2022 class is four-star Brophy College Prep strong-side defensive end Zac Swanson.
