Elite 5-Star SG Keyonte George trending to Texas basketball
There is a hot storyline coming to the forefront of late for the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class and new head coach Chris Beard heading into the weekend. Maybe the top target for the 2022 recruiting class this offseason, the elite five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy shooting guard Keyonte George, is starting to have a lot of traction it seems with the new coaching staff for Texas.
Beard and the Longhorns have yet to land a commitment in the 2022 class, but it could come in the near future. Former Texas head coach Shaka Smart tended to wait until the last minute to get a lot of his recruiting classes, going (namely with the 2020 signing class of one). And Beard got the short end of the stick for trying to piece together his Longhorns 2021 class at the last minute ahead of National Signing Day.
But that could still amount to Beard building an elite 2022 class when it’s all said and done.
Landing a commitment from the in-state product George would be about as good as Longhorns fans could hope for in the 2022 class. And there are some early indicators that Texas is trending in the right direction to get a pledge out of George.

There was one new 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction put in by an expert that favored the commitment of George to land with the Longhorns over the rest of the competition. The other expert Crystal Ball Prediction in for George has him taking to the pro route.
However, the Rivals FutureCast actually still has most of their analysts and publishers picking George to land with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. But most of those predictions from Rivals experts went with Texas Tech back when Beard was still the head coach in Lubbock.
Beard landing with the Longhorns could be even more favor to the Longhorns in the race to land George. The latest analyst to put a prediction in with the Rivals FutureCast actually went in the direction of Texas.
Texas is now one of 10 schools on the offer sheet of George as of the night of May 21. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kansas Jayhawks, Baylor Bears, Kentucky Wildcats, Arizona Wildcats, NC State Wolfpack, and Texas Tech.
Moreover, George ranks as the nation’s No. 6 2022 high school prospect, and the top overall shooting guard and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 14 high school prospect, and the top overall shooting guard and prospect out of Texas.
The sole commit in the Longhorns 2021 class is the former Texas Tech commit and uber-talented four-star John Paul II forward Jaylon Tyson. Texas had lost all of their original signees in the 2021 class after Smart left Austin to be the next head coach with the Marquette Golden Eagles back on March 26.
