A rising name for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class that is important to watch moving forward is the underrated four-star St. Peters Prep defensive tackle KJ Miles. Texas has landed a defensive tackle commit in their 2022 class already, but adding depth at the position could be key moving forward.

Texas wasn’t able to land any blue chip commits at the defensive tackle position in their 2021 class. But they do have on now in their 2022 class with the four-star North Shore product Kristopher Ross, who gave his pledge to new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns back in March.

Sark and new Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis would likely welcome the addition of another blue chip defensive tackle commit to the 2022 class. Front seven depth was critical to success for the Longhorns on the defensive side of the ball in the Big 12 of late. Texas has boasted some of the better run defenses at times in the past five years, and they need to recruit those position groups at a high level to continue that pedigree.

Texas sent a scholarship offer Miles’ way just a couple of months ago. And the Longhorns already have an official visit scheduled with Miles for next month. Texas is set to host Miles on the Forty Acres on June 25, which is his last official visit in line for the summer as of the night of May 21.

Miles has offers from Texas and 25 other schools thus far. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Wisconsin Badgers, Georgia Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions, USC Trojans, Virginia Cavaliers, USC Trojans, Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Tennessee Volunteers.

The Jersey City, NJ, native Miles has attention coming from all over the country at the moment. It’s nice to see the momentum that Texas built with Miles on the recruiting trail of late, but it will be a battle to land his commitment moving forward.

Moreover, Miles ranks as the nation’s No. 349 2022 high school prospect, No. 30 defensive tackle, and No. 4 prospect out of New Jersey (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 26 defensive tackle and No. 4 prospect out of New Jersey.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. Texas has eight commits in their 2022 class, with the highest-rated being four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue.
