My personal belief is that the most potent among the four NCAA Transfer Portal additions so far this offseason for Beard and the Longhorns is the former Vanderbilt Commodores blue-chip recruit and to-be junior power forward Dylan Disu. Even though he only played in 17 games for the Commodores last season in the SEC East, Disu was one of the more underrated big men in the entire conference.

That actually held true for Disu since he first started playing for Vanderbilt during the 2019-20 campaign. Over the course of the last two seasons, the 6-foot-9 and 220 pound Pflugerville, TX, native Disu registered a solid 2.8 box plus/minus rating, .099 win shares per 40 minutes, 16.2 player efficiency rating, and nearly four total win shares.

But it was a breakthrough from Disu in his 17 games played last season that really brought him to the forefront among efficient SEC big men. He registered a 6.3 box plus/minus rating last season, along with a 23.2 player efficiency rating, .171 win shares per 40 minutes, and a sparkling 59.2 true shooting percentage.

Given the versatility in Disu’s game and the untapped potential he still has left in the tank, coming under the guidance of Beard and his coaching staff should do wonders for this junior big man’s game. Disu is bound to become one of the better power forwards in the Big 12 out of the gates. The strong defensive and transition game that Beard likes to run is greatly to the benefit of Disu’s skill set.
