It’s hard to tell at the moment where exactly the former four-star Smart recruit and to-be senior sharpshooting 6-foot-5 and 200 pound guard Jase Febres will fit into Beard’s rotation. As long as he’s healthy, we do know that Febres should be a significant part of the backcourt/wing rotation heading into what could be his final year on the Forty Acres.

Throughout much of his career to date, Febres played at the two-guard or wing for Smart. But as soon as shooting guard/wing and former five-star recruit Andrew Jones became a regular part of the rotation again, Febres looked to mostly assume a spot at the two-guard. And that mostly came behind to-be senior standout scoring guard Courtney Ramey.

But given that way that Febres provided a spark for Smart and the Longhorns down the stretch last season once he returned from injury, he should be able to take that momentum into next season. Febres is one of the best pure shooters from deep that the Longhorns have on the roster, which is something that will really help out the spacing with Beard’s offense.

Nearly every shot that Febres took from the field last season was from beyond the arc. His three-point attempt rate above 91 percent was good for one of the five highest among Division I guards last season. If Beard can effectively run the Longhorns with a three-guard lineup next season, then the potential for Febres should be through the roof.
