Heading into the weekend, it looked like the final pieces were starting to fall in place for the top targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to get official visits scheduled for the summer. Next month will see official visits resume around the college football recruiting landscape, which will be huge for new Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.

It is also important for Sark and the Longhorns to zone in on the commits they currently have in the 2022 class that will be visiting next month. And there might not be a single bigger commit to watch for his looming official visit to Austin than the uber-talented four-star Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue.

Sark landed a commitment from Blue for the Longhorns 2022 class back when he was first getting rolling on the recruiting trail and found a real spark in the latter end of the winter months. Texas did see the number of commitments dry up a bit in the last two months, but that was anticipated ahead of official visit season starting back up.

However, Blue is one prospect that has a national spotlight on him right now. He recently opted out of playing in his senior campaign with Klein Cain High School. Since you really don’t get that many highly touted prospects like Blue opting out of their senior season in high school, that was pretty big news.

Recruiting ranking for 4-Star Texas football RB commit Jaydon Blue moving up

In a recent recruiting rankings update to the Top247, the Texas native Blue saw his stock move in the right direction. Blue previously ranked as the top commit in the Longhorns 2022 class before this rankings bump. But the latest Top247 update now has Blue slotted as the top-ranked high school running back prospect in the nation for the 2022 cycle.

The rest of the rankings for the Top247 slots him as the nation’s No. 31 high school prospect and the No. 8 prospect out of Texas. And the 247Sports Composite ranks him as the nation’s No. 48 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 12 prospect out of Texas.

Blue will certainly look to be well-rested by the time he arrives on the Forty Acres if he doesn’t play for Klein Cain this fall. He did get a large workload in the last two seasons for Klein Cain, where he registered 3,767 rushing yards and more than 45 rushing touchdowns.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 9 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas now has eight commits in their 2022 class, with Blue as the highest-rated.
