It’s rather common in the modern-day around the college football landscape to see a misplaced former blue-chip recruit at the skill positions land in the transfer portal multiple times throughout their career. And that is the case with the former USC Trojans and Illinois Fighting Illini speedy and elusive 5-foot-11 and 180-pound senior wide receiver Trevon Sidney.

Texas made it a habit to get help at the skill positions year in and year out under former head coach Tom Herman. But Sark has only turned to the transfer portal for help on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. That could change if he wanted to bolster the receiving corps given that they lost the likes of junior wideout Brennan Eagles and former graduate transfer senior Tarik Black to the NFL.

Sidney is a former four-star recruit that signed with head coach Clay Helton and the Trojans way back with their 2016 class. He’s seen mixed snaps between his time with USC and Illinois in his college career since first landing with the Trojans ahead of the 2016 campaign.

What Sidney brings to the table with him out of the transfer portal is 26 career catches for 262 receiving yards (just over 10 yards per catch), and one receiving touchdown. He’s only played in bits and pieces of 10 games in his career to date, though.

Finding a solidified landing spot could do wonders for Sidney’s production to round out his college career in the near future. Mixed roles under multiple different coaching regimes has cost him before, but finding the right place to take his talents to next is key.

He could be one of multiple speedsters in the Longhorns receiving corps were the Forty Acres to become his next landing spot.
