Texas Football: 5 hidden transfer portal gems to pursue on offense
T.J. Finley, QB
About the most intriguing quarterback prospect that Sark and the Longhorns could pursue out of the portal at this point of the offseason is the former LSU Tigers blue-chip recruit and freshman signal caller T.J. Finley. A quarterback that Texas could be a viable option for is definitely a name to watch moving forward this offseason.
There’s a lot of very notable landing spots that could be in play for where Finley could take his talents to next. Think of the Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, and Florida State Seminoles, among other blue bloods, that could all be interested in getting a commitment from Finley out of the portal this offseason.
It might not be an immediate impact addition out of the portal that the Longhorns get if they land Finley, but he could be an intriguing long-term fit under Sark and Flood. Both quarterbacks in the starting competition this offseason have a lot of talent for Sark. But neither Hudson Card nor Casey Thompson, have a lot of proven game action under their belt.
Adding a quarterback like Finley to the offense could bolster the depth in that position group for Sark, and ensure a brighter future for the passing game. Finley showed flashes of brilliance for head coach Ed Orgeron and the Tigers last fall. But he rounded out his freshman season with just five passing touchdowns and five interceptions. His game is largely still a work in progress.
