Texas Football: 5 hidden transfer portal gems to pursue on offense
David Bailey, RB
The Boston College Eagles had one of the more underrated ground attacks in the Power Five over the course of the past half-decade. Boston College does tend to have a run-first offense, but they are pretty steady in gashing opposing front sevens week in and week out. But they did have a big loss to their rushing attack earlier this offseason when standout 6-foot and 235-pound junior running back David Bailey put his name in the transfer portal.
Without a doubt, the towering and powerful Bailey is one of the most proven and productive players available in the portal at this point in time. It is a bit surprising that he was not able to find his next landing spot yet. It shouldn’t be all that long before Bailey finds his next home ahead of the fall.
At least among their top two running backs, the Longhorns look to be set. Texas might have the best running back duo in the Big 12 in 2021 between star sophomore Bijan Robinson and junior Roschon Johnson. There’s a lot of versatility and dynamic ability between those two rushers. But it is to figure out who falls third in line behind Robinson and Johnson.
In more than 25 games played over the last three seasons with BC, Bailey registered 1,600 rushing yards (nearly five yards per carry), 16 rushing touchdowns, 158 receiving yards (8.8 yards per catch), and two receiving touchdowns. He’s a stud and one that could add yet another huge dynamic to this backfield alongside Robinson and Johnson.
