It shouldn’t be all that long before the former Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pitt Panthers standout redshirt junior 6-foot-2 and 195-pound point guard Marcus Carr finds his next home. Like that of Young and Griffin, Carr put his name in the transfer portal around mid-to-late March. But given the amount of interest that Carr should be getting out of the portal this spring, it’s a wonder he’s still available at the moment.

There’s a good argument to make that Carr is the best point guard remaining in the transfer portal now. Knowing that Beard and the Longhorns could do really well to get a commitment from him in the near future. He would certainly be one of the most capable floor generals that could come in and assume a big role right away on the Forty Acres.

Carr got his first career all-conference nod last season playing with Minnesota in the Big Ten. He got those All-Big Ten honors by standing out in the 29 games he played in with the Golden Gophers, where he started in every single outing. And Carr averaged a career-best 19.4 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Carr shot 38.5 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 79.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Filling some hybrid role that the Longhorns get in bits and pieces from to-be senior guard Courtney Ramey and redshirt senior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones, Carr would be a very nice addition for Texas. He’s a solid two-way point guard that has about as much versatility and switchability to his game as any that the Longhorns could hope to get.
