In a time where there could be a lot of action just around the corner for the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class, there’s not much of an emphasis that remains on the 2021 cycle. New head coach Chris Beard did get one commit in the 2021 Texas class, but he did lose all of the original signees in the mix post-Early Signing Period.

As soon as the Longhorns lost former head coach Shaka Smart to the Marquette Golden Eagles, the entirety of the 2021 signing class was out the door. Texas saw a lot of their former 2021 commit flip to join Smart with the Golden Eagles in his home state of Wisconsin.

It was back on March 26 that Smart left Austin to become the next Marquette head coach. And the Longhorns subsequently hired the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard to take the job previously held by Smart on April 1.

Anything left for Chris Beard and the 2021 Texas basketball recruiting class?

The lone commit in the Longhorns 2021 class left at this point in time is the former Texas Tech pledge and elite four-star John Paul II small forward Jaylon Tyson. This would be two recruiting classes in a row that the Longhorns only signed one prospect. But with how much roster turnover Beard and the Longhorns faced so far this offseason, getting another retroactive addition to the 2021 class could help.

No clear target lies in sight for Beard and the Longhorns at this point in time for the 2021 class. But there are still some names out there worth noting that Texas could pursue. Here’s a look into three 2021 uncommitted prospects that the Longhorns could pursue as retroactive additions.
