I personally believe that one of the most underrated transfer portal additions for any Big 12 team on the defensive side of the ball so far this offseason came in the form of Texas landing a commitment from the former Freshman All-American linebacker Devin Richardson. The former New Mexico State Aggies linebacker and under-the-radar three-star recruit was solid in his past two seasons.

While it will take some time for Richardson to get accustomed to the new scheme and digs on the Forty Acres, he should be able to get some key reps right away. This front seven will need some new faces to step up, and a lot of that impact made at linebacker should come from this large transfer haul for Sark, Choate, and Kwiatkowski, from the offseason.

Richardson is one of the more recent of the four linebacker transfer portal additions for Texas this offseason. Both he and former Notre Dame Fighting Irish junior edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo are potential impact linebackers that can make a mark on the program that are arriving ahead of the start of summer workouts.

During his bits and pieces of three years playing for New Mexico State, Richardson registered 78 career combined tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup, and three forced fumbles. His best individual season came in 2019, which was the year he was named a Freshman All-American. If Richardson can adjust his game well to the new scheme on this Texas defense, watch out for him to step up for this group of linebackers in the fall.
