One of the more under-the-radar prospects that is set to visit the Forty Acres next month is the 6-foot-2 and 205 pound Ponchatoula safety Jacoby Mathews. This Louisiana native is one of the more talented safeties set to visit Texas next month, but he is currently committed to head coach Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers.

Mathews gave his commitment to LSU back on April 23, which came after the scheduling of his unofficial visit with Texas was in the works. It is also important to note he has a few other unofficial visits on the books for next month. And he has one official visit currently scheduled, which is set to come with head coach Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators on June 4.

Clearly, Mathews is still considering some of his other options. Given that, Texas could still have an in with Mathews heading into the summer months. Texas has a solid secondary in the works in their 2022 class, and that could appeal to Mathews.

Texas offered Mathews just over three months before he announced his commitment to LSU. Sark became one of the coaches that was in the middle of the pack in terms of the time when an offer was sent to Mathews. But it should count for something that Mathews was one of the initial defensive prospects that Sark and his staff offered out of the gates following his early January hire.

Texas has new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph and safeties coach Blake Gideon as the top recruiters after Mathews. If they can get the job done here, it would be an impressive flip for the Longhorns 2022 class this summer.
