A potential transfer portal target for the Longhorns that could be a rather versatile fit as a switchable shooting guard/wing is the former four-star recruit and Maryland Terrapins senior Darryl Morsell. There’s a large degree of value that Morsell could bring to the table for Beard and the Longhorns if they pursue him this offseason.

Morsell had a solid run with the Terps, that fell short in March Madness. And he could now be a nice found out of the portal for a depth-needy team in the backcourt rotation such as Texas.

A nice two-way presence could be provided for the Longhorns if they could get a commitment out of Morsell in the portal. He would also be a very different presence in the locker than the program would get out of someone like Askew. Morsell experienced a variety of different postseason situations during his four years at Maryland.

Morsell is a two-time All-Big Ten Defensive Team selection. And his offensive game only continued to improve over the course of the last two seasons. He was also very adept to creating his own looks from inside the two-point arc (only roughly 18 percent of his mid-range attempts were assisted last season).

Moreover, Morsell averaged 9.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks. And he shot 48.6 percent from the field, 25.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 60.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Morsell has a 2.4 career defensive box plus/minus rating compared to just 0.5 for his offensive box plus/minus. And he has five total defensive win shares to his name in his career, with less than half that number of offensive win shares.

It’s clear the role that Morsell could assume with Texas, which could still provide value to Beard heading into next season.
