With the two spots to anchor the defensive line likely figured out for the Longhorns at this point of the offseason, the remaining defensive end position is the one that is probably going to be most up for grabs. Texas does have a pretty proven returning projected starter in the former four-star recruit and senior defensive end Moro Ojomo.

But compared to the two other projected starters along the defensive line, redshirt junior Keondre Coburn and sophomore Alfred Collins, Ojomo has the least amount of security at his spot. Ojomo was less productive and efficient than both Coburn and Collins in the past year. He didn’t necessarily have a bad 2020 campaign, but there are some brewing options for the new coaching staff to consider ahead of him.

There’s a real possibility that Texas wants to try the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish transfer edge rusher and junior Ovie Oghoufo at this spot on the line. If Oghoufo beefs up a bit in summer workouts this year, he could fit this role that Ojomo currently occupies. It is also worth mentioning that the former highly coveted four-star recruit and sophomore defensive end Vernon Broughton is waiting to make an impact in this spot.

Maybe the biggest threat to the starting job of Ojomo this fall is the former Oklahoma Sooners commit and JUCO transfer senior defensive end Jacoby Jones. After a solid showing in the spring game and a strong showing last fall, Jones is bound to get more snaps this coming season than he did last.

During the 2020 season, Ojomo registered 21 combined tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass breakup.
