Tight end is set to be one of the stronger position groups for Sark and the Longhorns on the offensive side of the ball this fall. Texas returns essentially their entire tight end room from last year, including senior 6-foot-4 and 255-pound former three-star recruit Cade Brewer. As the likely current projected starter at tight end, Brewer might be on a short leash with Sark this fall.

Texas has a lot of young and talented players just waiting to get their shot to make an impact this year. That list of tight ends waiting for their chance to step up in the spotlight is not limited to freshmen Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis, sophomore Brayden Liebrock, and junior Jared Wiley.

Brewer was solid at times for the Longhorns over the past few seasons. But he was never really a huge part of this passing game. He’s also struggled with injury issues at times.

Depending on how often Sark and Flood plan to use tight ends in blocking schemes, they might try out some other personnel from this position in the passing game. Liebrock, Helm, and Davis, all look like they could become capable pass-catchers, but aren’t proven blockers. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing that Texas has so many different capable skill sets at tight end.

This is where this variety of personnel could also really come in handy for Texas this year.

In his four years playing for Texas, Brewer registered 37 career catches for 427 receiving yards (11.5 yards per catch), and four touchdown catches. His most productive season individually came last fall, when he registered 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Staying healthy and proving he’s a capable receiver for Texas will keep Brewer on the field at the tight end position for as long as possible this year.
