Jaylon Guilbeau, CB

Although he wasn’t the first commit overall in the Longhorns 2022 class, four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau was the initial prospect in the mix among the eight in total at the moment. The Texas native Guilbeau committed to the Longhorns back on Sep. 19, 2020. The fact that he stuck around through the Quinn Ewers and Phaizon Wilson saga last fall is impressive.

But Texas can’t sleep on the fact that other schools still look to be recruiting Guilbeau at this point in time. According to a 247Sports report (paid content), head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs are doing a “good job” recruiting Guilbeau under the radar right now. TCU has flipped key Texas commits in the recent past, so Sark needs to pay attention to what’s going on here.

A number of offers came Guilbeau’s way since he committed to Texas in September 2020. TCU was actually the first scholarship offer that he received following his commitment to the Longhorns. The Horned Frogs offered him back on Jan. 11, 2021. Other schools that offered him since then include the Houston Cougars, Michigan Wolverines, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The original team of recruiters after Guilbeau was former Texas defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai. Neither former Texas assistant with still with the program, so the likes of Sark and new DB’s coach Terry Joseph must do a good job with his recruitment from here on out.

Texas does not currently have an official visit on the books with Guilbeau for the summer, but an unofficial visit is not out of the question. In fact, expect that to happen at some point before the fall.
