Texas football pulling away from A&M for 4-Star CB Terrance Brooks
An emerging target of late for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class also seems to be moving in the right direction in terms of traction with the coaching staff in Austin. The talented four-star 5-foot-11 and 190 pound John Paul II cornerback Terrance Brooks is a prospect that Texas looks to be going all out for at the moment.
It is a theme at this point of the recruiting cycle for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and assistants like safeties coach Blake Gideon and DB’s coach Terry Joseph to emphasizing building up the secondary.
Sark, Joseph, and the Longhorns do have a solid foundation built in the defensive backfield in the 2022 class right now between commitments from four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr. But Texas still looks to be wanting to add more heading into the official visit season next month in the secondary.
Brooks is a prospect that the Longhorns offered way back on May 19, 2020. It is more than a year ago at this point that the Longhorns originally sent a scholarship offer Brooks’ way. And despite the change in coaching regime, Texas appears to be making some solid headway in their pursuit of Brooks.

According to a report from 247Sports (paid content) on May 29, Texas is a school that is gaining on Brooks at the moment. Texas is reportedly jumping ahead of competing programs on the recruiting trail to land the commitment of Brooks, like the rival Texas A&M Aggies and Oregon Ducks.
This report shows that it could be the Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide that the recruitment of Brooks comes down to. Texas A&M and Oregon could still play a role in his recruitment, but Texas and Alabama ultimately look like the schools to watch moving forward.
The four schools that currently have an official visit lined up for next month with Brooks are the Florida Gators (June 11), Alabama (June 25), Texas (June 8), and Oregon (June 4). Although, Texas A&M did get a recent unofficial visit from Brooks.
Texas has Joseph as the primary recruiter pursuing Brooks. For Alabama, it is notable that former Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai is the primary recruiter also going after Brooks. Since Valai was a positional coach on the Forty Acres when Texas offered Brooks, that could be something to watch.
Moreover, Brooks ranks as the nation’s No. 83 2022 high school prospect, No. 10 cornerback, and No. 16 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 102 high school prospect, No. 12 cornerback, and No. 20 prospect out of Texas.
