There weren’t a whole lot of hard feelings that went the way of the former elite five-star recruit and Austin, TX, native Greg Brown when he decided to declare early for the 2021 draft. The former Vandegrift power forward and highly-touted Texas freshman was the lone signee in the Longhorns 2020 class.

Brown was touted coming out of high school as a potential top 10 pick in the 2021 draft lottery. And while a lot of that hype has cooled since Brown had a rather inconsistent true freshman campaign, he could still wind up being a mid-first-round pick in this class. That raw talent level he brings to the table is still going to draw a lot of suitors this year at the next level.

There are certain things that Brown did for the Longhorns that could make him a very appealing prospect in the NBA. He is a capable open shooter from deep, possesses an extremely high motor, has the lateral quickness and strength to keep up with most any big man on defense, and can leap out of the building/protect the rim when his timing is on.

The problem is that all of those aspects of his game came and went in the season that was. Brown also had turnover problems at times and was maybe the least effective facilitator in the entire Texas rotation (averaged less than 0.5 assists per game).

What seems to be a realistic projection for Brown in the 2021 draft class is falling off the board in the late first round, or early in the second. His peak would seem to be in the late teens.
