A very notable name is coming to the forefront for the Texas football program as a new potential NCAA Transfer Portal target for new head coach Steve Sarkisian. As official visits rage on the Forty Acres this weekend, there is news worth discussing in terms of the newest potential transfer portal target.

According to a report from 247Sports this weekend (paid content), Texas is in contact with the former Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore running back Keilan Robinson out of the portal this offseason. Robinson played under Sark when he was the offensive coordinator with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Alabama connection looks to be a valuable one here if the Longhorns and Sark are going to seriously pursue Robinson out of the transfer portal. Robinson is one of the more notable recent entrants into the transfer portal and one that the Longhorns could likely get a lot out of.

It was not all that long ago that Texas turned to the transfer portal for help at the running back position and got some good value out of it. A few offseasons ago, former Texas head coach Tom Herman got a running back out of the portal in the form of the former Cal Golden Bears senior grad transfer Tre Watson.

He and Keaontay Ingram were a solid duo to help revitalize the Texas ground game in 2018.

Texas football getting more transfer help in Keilan Robinson?

And while the ground game looks to be in much better shape in 2021 than it was in 2017 and 2018, adding depth in the form of a commitment from Robinson could just make this running back room stronger.

Moreover, no confirmation emerged yet in that 247Sports report that Robinson was officially on campus this weekend for a visit with Sark and the Longhorns. But this is still a name to watch moving forward if Sark does want some help in the running back room.

Texas brings back star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson along with junior Roschon Johnson in 2021. That’s not to mention the return of senior running backs Daniel Young and Gabriel Watson. Texas should also be getting an injection of running back talent in the form of the former four-star recruit Jonathon Brooks.

Robinson didn’t get many reps during his two seasons playing for Alabama, but there are still some notable numbers to look into. He registered 254 rushing yards on 39 attempts (6.5 yards per carry), good for two rushing touchdowns.

Granted, he might’ve got more reps last season if it weren’t for him opting out in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given that Texas could be getting a really potent running back in the mix in Robinson in 2021, it’s hard to ignore this possibility out of the transfer portal.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12) under the direction of the former head coach Herman. The former Alabama offensive coordinator/reigning Broyles Award winner Sark was hired to replace Herman as head coach on Jan. 2.
