On the night of June 6, head coach David Pierce and No. 2 ranked Texas baseball has the opportunity to get one more win to sweep the Austin Regional and move on in the postseason. Get one more win on June 6, and Texas is set to go to Super Regionals for the first time since the 2018 season, where they would eventually make their most recent College World Series appearance.

In 2018, the Longhorns road a surprising postseason run to knock off Tennessee Tech in Super Regionals and advance to the lone College World Series for the program during Pierce’s tenure as head coach. Texas had a rebuilding season on the diamond in 2019, and the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic canceled out the rest of last season before it could really get started.

Moreover, Texas had a pretty dominant 2021 campaign thus far. Despite falling short in the Big 12 Tournament last week, the Longhorns are set to continue surging in the postseason thanks to a solid showing in the Austin Regional thus far. Texas opened it all up with an 11-0 stomping of the Southern Jaguars on June 4.

Then, Texas had another impressive outing on June 5, with a convincing 10-3 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils. And since Arizona State has now toppled Fairfield twice in two days, Texas is set to have a rematch with the Sun Devils in the final game(s) (if necessary) on June 6 and 7.

If Texas beats Arizona State in a meeting between these two teams on June 6, then the Austin Regional will conclude there. Texas would then advance to Super Regionals for the first time in three years.

Yet, if the Sun Devils manage to beat Texas on June 6, then it will be a rematch between these two teams in Austin on June 7. That June 7 meeting would then decide which team moves onto Super Regionals.
