Texas Football: Predicting next transfer addition after Keilan Robinson
Akayleb Evans, CB
Among all of the potential transfer portal additions for Texas at this point of the offseason, there’s one player that is far and away the top target to watch in the month of June. Former Tulsa Golden Hurricane standout redshirt junior 6-foot-2 and 190-pound cornerback Akayleb Evans does look to have Texas among his top schools for his next landing spot out of the portal.
Since Texas does look to still be actively seeking help in the defensive backfield out of the transfer portal heading into the summer months, Evans makes sense as an addition for new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph. He also looks like he could be a good rangy corner and a nice scheme fit for new co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Jeff Choate and Pete Kwiatkowski.
The other four schools to watch that Evans looks to have among his finalists are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Mizzou Tigers, and FCS Jackson State. Texas could have an edge in this regard thanks to the immediate playing time he could get with a blue blood program. If he does visit the Forty Acres this month, it will be huge to make a positive impression on Evans.
A report from 247Sports on June 6 (paid content), shows the intentions for Sark and the Longhorns to potentially shut down any planned transfer portal pursuit if they’re able to land a commitment from Evans in the near future. That goes to show just how important he could be to their plans in the secondary in 2021.
