If the Longhorns aren’t able to land a commitment from Evans, or they do expand their horizons to get help out of the portal at the skill positions again, then look no further than to them getting help in the receiving corps. It was good for Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman to flip the commitment of the former Michigan Wolverines pledge and four-star Central East speedster Xavier Worthy.

But Worth is obviously not a proven player that the Longhorns are bringing into the receiving corps since he is a new addition to the program as a high school prospect that signed in the 2021 recruiting class.

Outside of that, Texas would be able to get some proven depth added to the receiving corps if they looked the way of the former Mizzou underrated three-star recruit and Arlington, TX, native wide receiver Jalen Knox. This 6-foot and 195-pound junior wideout was one of the more surprising entrants to the transfer portal early this month.

Knox is also a product of Mansfield Timberview High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and was a teammate of Texas linebacker Jaden Hullaby’s at one point in time. There are other prospects out of Mansfield Timberview that Texas has frequently gone after in recent memory.

Knox is one of the most capable wide receivers in the portal at the moment in terms of what he was able to do for the Mizzou offense the past few seasons. He’s registered just over 1,000 receiving yards (and roughly 14 yards per catch), four receiving touchdowns, 106 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown, in his three years playing for Mizzou.

Getting wideout help out of the portal, if it is something that Sark and Coleman decide to pursue this offseason, could start with looking into Knox.
