Texas Football: Predicting next transfer addition after Keilan Robinson
Palaie Gaoteote IV, LB
One of the more interesting situations that Sark and the Longhorns encountered in the transfer portal throughout the offseason concerns the former USC Trojans junior linebacker Palaie Gaoteote IV. There was a point in time in which the Longhorns looked to be the favorite to get a commitment from the former elite five-star recruit and 6-foot-2 and 250 pound Gaoteote.
Within the past few weeks, though, it does appear that the Longhorns are falling behind in pursuit of Gaoteote out of the portal. Texas might not even be the front runner by now to get a commitment from Gaoteote out of the portal. Other competing schools such as the Ohio State Buckeyes and even USC (to get him back in the mix) could be getting ahead of Texas by now.
Texas does not look to be out of the running for good to get Gaoteote in the mix, but they’re fighting an uphill battle. The school that looks the most likely to land Gaoteote at the moment does seem to be Ohio State. We’ll have to see how this battle for Gaoteote pans out when it’s all said and done between the Longhorns and Buckeyes.
Of the four players in the transfer portal on this list, I would consider Gaoteote the second most likely to land with Texas next (behind Evans). Texas should still be among the top schools for Gaoteote. And the pursuit of his commitment out of the portal the rest of the way will likely hinge on Ohio State’s pitch to him this summer.
