Although there aren’t any official ties between the Longhorns and the former TCU Horned Frogs 6-foot-11 and 255-pound junior center Kevin Samuel as of yet, there is one dating back to the days of his recruitment out of high school. That could mean something moving forward as Texas tries to fill out the frontcourt rotation.

Samuel is a native of Houston, TX, and a product of St. Thomas Episcopal High School. He landed with head coach Jamie Dixon and the Horned Frogs over offers from more than 20 other schools during the 2017 recruiting cycle. And he did hold offers from the likes of Texas Tech and Texas coming out of high school.

Since both former Texas head coach Shaka Smart and the newly hired former Texas Tech head coach Beard were pursuing Samuel when he was coming out of high school, the Longhorns could be a potential landing spot to watch for him.

Just like the situation holds for the former Tulane and Seton Hall point guard Walker, there’s no concrete destination that is known to the public yet for Samuel. That’s why it could be important to watch a school like Texas or Texas Tech in pursuit of his commitment out of the portal.

Texas could still use some help to round out the frontcourt rotation. They did get some frontcourt help in the form of former Vanderbilt Commodores power forward Dylan Disu. Former Creighton Blue Jays forward Christian Bishop and Utah Utes forward Timmy Allen could help out at the four too.

But with Texas potentially set to lose a trio that includes senior center Jericho Sims, sophomore power forward Kai Jones, and freshman power forward Greg Brown, all to the NBA Draft, they could use someone like Samuel to replace that depth.
