Essentially the lone remaining transfer portal target that is firmly on the Longhorns radar that we know of at this point in time that remains uncommitted is the former UMass Minutemen sophomore center Tre Mitchell. This 6-foot-9 and 240-pound former blue-chip recruit and native of Pittsburgh, PA, has also remained on the Longhorns’ radar for a good while now.

In fact, it was almost one month ago that Mitchell named his six finalist schools, with Texas included on the list. The other five schools among Mitchell’s finalists are the Illinois Fighting Illini, LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, and Bryant Bulldogs. Texas made it as the lone Big 12 school among the finalists for Mitchell.

Although, Texas was not one of the more than 30 schools that had offered Mitchell out of high school during the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Moreover, getting Mitchell in the mix would potentially be the last big transfer portal addition that Beard and the Longhorns would need to start rounding out the rotation this offseason. Texas does need frontcourt help, which is why there are big men like Samuel and Cisse on this list.

Mitchell is a two-time Atlantic-10 All-Conference Team selection, and he was the 2019-20 Atlantic-10 Newcomer of the Year award winner. That’s not to mention his A-10 All-Freshman Team honors from two seasons ago. He’s already pretty decorated and could fill an immediate need in the starting unit for Beard and the Longhorns entering next season.
