It feels like the action for new Texas basketball head coach Chris Beard in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason is starting to wind down a good bit. But that was bound to happen in the summer months given the frantic pace at which Texas had to get some pickups to a thin roster, at the time, out of the transfer portal. The good news is that Beard had a lot of success in the transfer portal so far this offseason.

Roster attrition is just naturally expected when there’s a disappointing end to a postseason and a complete shift in coaching regime. Texas hired the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard back on April 1 to replace the departed former head coach Shaka Smart, who took over in the same role with the Marquette Golden Eagles back on March 26.

The departure of Smart followed an early exit in March Madness, which left a sour taste in the mouths of Longhorns fans after a Big 12 Tournament crown.

Chris Beard still has work to do for Texas basketball in the portal?

At least the hire of Beard as the next Texas head coach has brought some newfound hope to the Forty Acres in the last couple of months. The roster looks solid, and the hope is that Beard will bring some of that magic he found in Lubbock to the Texas men’s hoops program starting as soon as next season.

Now with visit season firmly upon us, the emphasis on new additions to the program will continue into the summer months. With that in mind, here’s a look at three players in the transfer portal that could be immediate studs for the Longhorns.
