Texas Football: 5-Star OL Kelvin Banks could have unforeseen visit
There’s a lot of good news coming the way of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and new head coach Steve Sarkisian heading into a key visit weekend. Texas is set to host a whole lot of key targets on the recruiting trail for the second weekend in the key month of June for the 2022 and 2023 classes. Even the 2024 class could have a solid foundation laid by visits this week.
Sark and the Longhorns got some initial very good news heading into this weekend of visits on campus in the form of a switch in plans from the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins. Instead of keeping to his regularly scheduled official visit with head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans this weekend, Perkins will be on campus with the Longhorns.
It is now known that Perkins will be on the Forty Acres for an official visit this weekend.
Key 2022 Texas football recruiting target 5-Star OT Kelvin Banks set to be on campus this weekend?
Another prospect that wasn’t originally expected to visit Texas this weekend that could actually be on campus is the five-star Summer Creek 6-foot-5 and 300-pound offensive lineman Kelvin Banks. Texas was actually originally set to host Banks for an official visit next weekend, and that could still hold true.
But according to a report from Horns247 on June 11 (paid content), Banks could be heading to Austin this weekend (on what was supposed to be an off weekend for him and his family anyway) for a visit with Texas. This would make it two straight weekends for Texas getting to host Banks for a visit.
Since the recruitment of the former Oklahoma State Cowboys commit looks to feature a good number of frontrunners, Texas is doing well to put the full-court press on Banks. Competing schools like the Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers, and Oklahoma State, among others, all look to still be in play for Banks.
Granted, the big-time in-state schools such as Texas and Texas A&M could be critical at the top of the list for Banks at this moment.
It was earlier this week that Oregon hosted an official visit with Banks. That came on June 8 in Eugene. He is specifically set for his official visit with the Longhorns on June 18. He still has official visits on the books for later this month including Oklahoma State (June 16) and Texas A&M (June 24).
Moreover, Banks ranks as the nation’s No. 15 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 offensive tackle, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 34 high school prospect, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 9 prospect out of Texas.
