Texas Football: 4 transfer portal targets after missing on Akayleb Evans
Demetris Robertson, WR
One of the most notable recent transfer portal entrants around the college football landscape this week is former Georgia and Cal Golden Bears 6-foot and 190-pound redshirt senior wide receiver Demetris Robertson. This is the second time that Robertson put his name in the transfer portal in his college career to date.
Robertson started out his college career with Cal in the PAC-12 ahead of the 2016 season. He spent two years with the Golden Bears in Berkeley before putting his name in the transfer portal entering the 2018 offseason. Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart then got a commitment from Robertson out of the portal ahead of the 2018 campaign.
Although, there really wasn’t much playing time on the table for Robertson in 2018, that largely changed in 2019. Robertson was one of the more effective Georgia wideouts in 2019, registering more than 330 receiving yards on 30 yards (more than 13 yards per catch), good for three touchdown catches.
Robertson would give the Longhorns a more proven and traveled weapon that they could use in the receiving corps as somewhat of an insurance policy compared to a whole lot of younger unproven talents this year. Texas doesn’t have a proven primary wideout this year, and it likely wouldn’t be Robertson that would assume that role.
What he could do for the Longhorns is solidify the receiving corps in the slot in case injury problems continue to strike for the likes of Jordan Whittington and Jake Smith this fall.
