Coming out of the second visit weekend on the Forty Acres, there’s a ton of buzz surrounding the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes. Most indicators point to a bang-up job that the staff under new head coach Steve Sarkisian did in the past two weekends as official visit season made its way back to the college football recruiting landscape this month.

Texas had a slower first weekend of visits on campus to start off the month of June than they did this past weekend. June 4 saw a few official visitors, and a handful of other unofficial visitors, on campus in Austin. But that did not compare to the roughly two-dozen official and unofficial visitors that Sark and the Longhorns hosted last weekend.

That even resulted in Texas getting their first ranked high school prospect added to the 2022 class in roughly a month and a half on June 12. Texas landed a commitment from the under-the-radar three-star Liberty (NV) athlete Anthony Jones over the weekend. If Jones does play along the front seven for Texas, then this group in the 2022 class is really starting to add some depth of late.

2022 Texas football recruiting class reaches double digits with 3-Star ATH Anthony Jones

The former Washington Huskies commit Jones seems to be following the path of the new Texas co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski. When Kwiatkowski was the co-defensive coordinator under head coach Jimmy Lake at Washington, Jones was committed to the Huskies.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. After landing the commitment from Jones, Texas now has 10 prospects in their 2022 class, with the highest-rated being four-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy.

With Texas now up to double digits in the 2022 class, here’s a look into who the 11th addition to the mix could be after landing Jones last weekend.
