The month of June is a busy one for the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class and new head coach Chris Beard as they try to build a foundation with their first commit this offseason. Texas men’s hoops has already hosted a few critical visitors on campus in the past two weeks, including a couple of five-star targets of the 2022 recruiting class. It likely shouldn’t be too long before that elusive first commit in the 2022 class arrives.

With official visits returning around the college football and hoops recruiting landscapes, somewhat of a “normal” feeling is returning to campus in the latter stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. And that’s something that’s much needed with all of the other adjustments happening at the moment for the Longhorns basketball program.

Chris Beard ready to breakthrough with the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class

Texas hired the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard to replace the departed Shaka Smart back on April 1. Smart bolted from Austin to become the next head coach of the Marquette Golden Eagles back on March 26, which led to that aforementioned April 1 hiring of Beard.

A complete change in coaching regime combined with the Longhorns’ tough end to last season in the Round of 64 of the NCAA Tournament amounted to a difficult battle for Beard on the recruiting trail. But he’s done a pretty good job thus far laying the foundation for what could be a promising 2022 class.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three early candidates to be the first commit for the Longhorns 2022 class in June.
