Texas Basketball: 3 2022 commits that Chris Beard could land in June
Kel’el Ware, C
One of the newer targets for Beard and the Longhorns 2022 class on the recruiting trail of late is the talented four-star 6-foot-11 and 210 pound North Little Rock center Kel’el Ware. This Arkansas native has an unquestioned level of athleticism and physical tools and could be an immediate difference-maker for Texas.
With Texas looking thin on center depth for the future at the moment, getting a commitment from a target on the recruiting trail like Ware would be huge. Beard oftentimes doesn’t run with a traditional big man in the starting five. But there were times that he succeeded with that type of frontcourt unit in the starting five in past years in Lubbock.
Ware is a truly dominant big man down low that can do a lot. He has the makings of a solid developing modern center at the college and NBA level. He is improving his range from deep, already showing solid ability to facilitate from the five, and protects the rim, and hits the glass hard on the defensive end of the floor.
Texas is actually the lone program for the rest of the month of June that has an official visit on the books with Ware. That might be enough for Beard to build the momentum he needs to start winning over the interests from this talented center. Ware doesn’t have a planned decision date soon, but Texas should be considered among his frontrunners at this point in time.
