Former Texas football HC Charlie Strong lauds Tim Tebow in camp
An interesting turn of events in the NFL this offseason is the takeover of former Texas football coaches joining their new head coach Urban Meyer. Texas has a couple of very prominent former coaches that are now on staff with the former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes three-time National Championship winning head coach Meyer with the Jags.
One is the former Texas head coach Charlie Strong, and the other is former defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash. Strong was the Longhorns’ head coach prior to Tom Herman, but after Mack Brown, from 2014-2016. He had a short stint on the Forty Acres before taking over as the head coach of the South Florida Bulls.
Former Texas football HC Charlie Strong now working with Tim Tebow in Jacksonville
Strong will now be the linebackers coach and assistant head coach in a very major role on Meyer’s coaching staff in Jacksonville.
Ash was the defensive coordinator/safeties coach for the Longhorns just for last year when Herman tried to remodel his staff in one last-ditch attempt prior to his firing around six months ago.
However, the Jags coaching staff isn’t the only storyline taking precedence in Jacksonville at the moment. The Jags had one of the big splash signings of the offseason for reasons of mostly media and fan buildup. Jacksonville got the former Florida and Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow on a one year contract.
Although Tebow is now playing at the tight end for the Jags in camp. And Strong reportedly had some positive words for how Tebow is fitting in this offseason with the Jags. Strong sounded like he thinks that Tebow still has a good way to go on the field, but is taking all of this in well otherwise.
Tebow spent the past few years playing minor league baseball, but he called it quits there this year before signing this one-year contract with the Jags. He will now be looking to play tight end, and make his way up the Jags depth chart in the coming months.
Texas brought on new head coach Steve Sarkisian back on Jan. 2 to replace Herman. The former Texas head coach Herman is now an offensive analyst/special projects coach with the Chicago Bears.
