Yet another big splash addition to the Texas basketball program arrived for new head coach Chris Beard on the night of June 15 in the form of the star former UMass Minutemen center Tre Mitchell. This is the sixth addition for the Texas men’s hoops program and Beard out of the NCAA Transfer Portal so far this offseason, and there are whispers that the activity on the market might not be done.

Beard and the Longhorns are doing great work out of the transfer portal so far this offseason. But even that feels like an understatement. Texas really has completely changed the face of the program between hiring Beard as the next head coach and getting so many big additions out of the transfer portal.

Texas basketball has one of the best rosters in the Big 12 after adding Tre Mitchell

It’s hard to understate also how big the addition of Mitchell is individually. This might actually be the biggest transfer haul yet for the Longhorns, which says a lot. Texas has also likely solidified itself as a top 10 or 15 team at the very least heading into next season.

It didn’t take Beard too long to assemble what might be the most well-rounded starting unit in the Big 12. Given all of the losses that the defending National Champion Baylor Bears are about to sustain, Texas might have the most appealing starting five in the conference at the moment.

The embarrassment of riches that Beard and the Longhorns have started to assemble on this roster will make this team incredibly dangerous heading into next season.

With that in mind, here’s a look at who the next transfer portal addition could be for Beard and the Longhorns following the commitment of Mitchell early this week.
