Texas Football: 3 prospects to replace Rueben Owens as first ’23 commit
Ryan Yaites, S
Texas does have some early momentum with some of their top defensive back targets in the 2023 class. That list of defensive back targets to watch for the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment should start with both the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native Toviano and four-star Denton-Guyer 6-foot-1 and 175-pound safety Ryan Yaites.
Yaites was really busy so far this month with unofficial visits. He was a part of all of the high-profile 2023 targets on the Forty Acres last weekend with all of the buzz for an essential Junior Day (in a way at least). He’s also taken unofficial visits this month with Oklahoma State (June 7), LSU (June 18), and has one planned with the Ole Miss Rebels for June 18.
It is also important to watch other competing schools on the recruiting trail for Yaites including Notre Dame, TCU, and USC. A lot of programs are going all out to get Yaites in their 2023 class.
This will be a good early test for new safeties coach Blake Gideon for how he’s able to perform on the recruiting trail. He is currently the primary recruiter pursuing Yaites, and this would be a huge one to get as the initial commit in the 2023 class.
Texas was in on the pursuit of Yaites pretty early on. Texas is one of just over a dozen schools on his offer sheet. Some other schools to note are the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (his most recent offer), Colorado Buffaloes, Michigan State Spartans, and SMU Mustangs.
Yaites would clearly be a big initial commit in the Longhorns 2023 class. And Texas sits in a favorable position with him following that key unofficial visit last weekend. Texas would be getting the nation’s No. 85 2023 high school prospect, No. 6 safety, and No. 14 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite), if they landed a commitment from Yaites.
