Not just one of the biggest NCAA Transfer Portal additions of the offseason to date for the Texas basketball program, but one of the biggest possibly in the entire country, came earlier this week. Texas and new head coach Chris Beard got a commitment from the star former UMass Minutemen sophomore center Tre Mitchell out of the transfer portal to get one step closer to rounding out this potent rotation.

If one thing is clear, it’s that Beard and the Longhorns are pretty much set in their starting unit. Texas has one of the most talented and well-rounded starting units in the entire country now after landing the commitment from the two-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference Team selection and the 2019-20 A-10 Newcomer of the Year.

Texas is likely to have most of their movement in the transfer portal complete now after gaining the commitment of Mitchell. This is now more than five commitments out of the transfer portal that Beard and the Longhorns have reeled in just the last two and a half months. Mitchell might be the best of that group too.

The transfer portal was definitely flush with talent for the Longhorns this offseason. Beard wasted no time taking full advantage of what talent was available to him to construct this roster. Texas might already have the best starting unit, on paper at least, in the Big 12.

They also have one of the most talented rotations in the conference.

Texas is building a truly special rotation this offseason, largely by way of the transfer portal. Mitchell just adds to the potency of this budding star-studded rotation in Austin. Here’s a look into an advanced analytical deep dive on Mitchell, showing what kind of impact he’ll make for the Longhorns.
