Texas Football: 4 biggest decommits ever for Sark

With the third big visit weekend of the month just wrapping up on the evening of June 20 for Texas football recruiting, the focus still remains on the direction that new head coach Steve Sarkisian can find for the 2022 and 2023 classes. Texas had very mixed results on the recruiting trail during the visit season, which returned this month.

The college football recruiting landscape saw the return of both official and unofficial visits on campus for the first time in roughly 15 months since the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. And with that will come the potency for Sark and the Longhorns to find another spark on the recruiting trail.

But all that the Longhorns have found on the recruiting trail this month during visit season is the return of the volatility that we saw under the direction of former head coach Tom Herman. Texas has landed a few key commitments, including former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Keilan Robinson out of the transfer portal and three-star athlete Anthony Jones in the 2022 class.

It’s hard to get away from the decommitment of the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens heading into the final visit weekend this month, though. Owens decommitted from Texas on June 17, leaving the Longhorns 2023 class once again without any prospects.

This could bring the attention to a larger point of the biggest decommitments Sark has ever had as a college football coach. He’s spent most of his college football coaching career as either a head coach or offensive coordinator.
