There is only one more visit weekend that remains this month before another dead period arrives around the college football recruiting landscape. But it looks like the Texas football program and new head coach Steve Sarkisian got a lot of their big-time visits taken care of in the past two weekends.

Last weekend, the major emphasis was on all of the visiting five-star prospects that are targets of the Longhorns 2022 class. Texas hosted numerous impactful five-star prospects for the 2022 recruiting cycle over the weekend, and it looked to be a success by most accounts.

One big-time prospect, in particular, that was on campus for an official visit over the weekend that is big to make the right impression with this offseason is the elite five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris. This 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Houston-area native Harris might be one of the top two or three targets for the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment.

Critical visit for 5-Star CB Denver Harris with Texas football

Given that, it’s obvious that his first official visit of the calendar year with Texas was a critical one. A summarized report from Horns247 (paid content) from the weekend indicated that the Texas coaching staff did well with their pitch to Harris during his official visit, and they sit in a good position with him moving forward.

Texas also reportedly (per Horns247 paid content) pitched well to Harris’ family too. His mother specifically sounds to be impressed with what Texas brings to the table for her son.

This is important given that the personal connection and geographic distance look to play a critical role in Harris’ decision. It sounds like the top competition for the Longhorns to land a commitment from Harris will be the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Texas has new cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks as the top recruiters for Harris. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide have former Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai and defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach Pete Golding after Harris.

Alabama is set to host an official visit with Harris on June 25. That will be a critical last word during this month of big official visits for Harris with the Crimson Tide. It will be interesting to see what direction his recruitment trends in following that visit.

Next. 4 biggest decommits ever for Sark. dark

Harris is clearly a crucial target for the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 cornerback, and the No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 20 high school prospect, No. 3 cornerback, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas.
