Texas Basketball: 3 players ready to become stars under Chris Beard
Jaylon Tyson, F
Although he has yet to play in a single game at the college level thus far, the lone signee in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class and incoming freshman forward Jaylon Tyson is a notable name for this program. It was big for Beard and the Longhorns to at least get one highly-touted incoming freshman from the 2021 signing class.
Texas lost key former signees such as five-star shooting guard Tamar Bates and four-star power forward David Joplin right after the departure of Smart. And getting the former Texas Tech commit and the four-star John Paul II small forward Tyson flipped to the Longhorns 2021 signing class was huge.
Tyson might not get a starting spot for Beard and the Longhorns out of the gates, but he should work his way more and more into key minutes in game action as the season moves along. He does have a rather polished skill set as an established scorer from multiple different levels of the floor, as well as the ability to distribute the ball and bully his way to the rim.
With the way that Tyson developed his skill set in his latter days with John Paul II in Plano, TX, he should be able to see similar results at the next level. Tyson bought into the system that Beard brought to the table and pitched to him during his recruitment before his commitment to the Red Raiders. He looks to bring the same thing to the table with the Longhorns.
