Sorely needed good news at the wide receiver position did arrive this week. The 2022 Texas football recruiting class will be hosting the former Oklahoma Sooners four-star wide receiver commit and Garland High School product Jordan Hudson. According to a report from 247Sports on June 23 (paid content), Hudson will be making an unofficial visit to Austin on June 24.

Hudson will be making his first unofficial visit to the Forty Acres this year, which is big since it looked like the SMU Mustangs were pulling away in the race to land his commitment. It could still be the case that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are behind head coach Sonny Dykes and SMU among his top schools at this point, but this might be something that could start to change that.

Texas didn’t get to reportedly host Hudson on a visit last weekend following his visit with SMU. Since he still wants to visit Texas, it looks like there is still a door open to some degree for Sark, second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman, and the Longhorns to move up in his eyes.

The visit that Hudson took with SMU specifically came back on June 17. It was his first official or unofficial visit after his June 14 decommitment from Oklahoma. SMU has wide receivers coach Ra’Shaad Samples as the primary recruit pursuing Hudson. Texas did have their former cornerbacks coach Jay Valai after Hudson.

But now a lot of the efforts being put in to recruit Hudson are falling to Sark himself along with Coleman.

Texas originally sent their scholarship offer to Hudson back on March 17, 2020. It wasn’t too long after that, though, that Hudson gave his commitment to head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners. But now the door is back open for Texas to try and win over Hudson.

This would be a huge commitment for Texas to get. Hudson ranks as the nation’s No. 113 2022 high school prospect, No. 14 wide receiver, and No. 23 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 185 high school prospect, No. 28 wide receiver, and No. 32 prospect out of Texas.

Yet, Sark and the Longhorns still have a very long way to go before they can top the Mustangs in the race to land the Texas native Hudson. It would be their second wide receiver commit in the 2022 class, along with four-star Lewisville product Armani Winfield.
