The start that the college baseball landscape was looking for in the meeting between No. 2 ranked Texas baseball and the No. 6 ranked Virginia Cavaliers was not what transpired in Omaha on the night of June 24. Texas and Virginia were set to have first pitch in this meeting at 6 p.m. CT, but it looks like it will be pushed back at least 30-45 minutes due to inclement weather in Omaha.

The weather rolled in to Omaha to push back the start time for this game roughly 10-15 minutes before the original first pitch time. We are now over 30 minutes into the delay, and it doesn’t look like there are signs of it letting up soon.

There is a special weather statement from AccuWeather warning that there is a “strong thunderstorm over Springfield, or 12 miles southwest of Omaha, moving northeast at 20 mph”. And it also mentions that “half-inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm”.

If that special weather statement is accurate to any degree, then the game could be in jeopardy at least past 7:45 p.m. CT. The first time in the hourly forecast from AccuWeather lists Omaha as having less than a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms is at 9 p.m. CT.

Texas might be facing a delay of at least a couple of hours past the original start time, by some indications. But we’ll just have to monitor this ongoing storyline from the NCAA and the College World Series hosts in Omaha.

The latest significant weather alert from the NCAA Baseball Twitter page stated at 6:15 p.m. CT that fans would need to leave their seats due to a lightning alert.

As this story continues to develop, we will be following at Hook’Em Headlines. Texas and Virginia both come into this June 24 meeting in the College World Series needing to avoid a loss to stay alive. Both teams have their sole loss in Omaha at the hands of the No. 7 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. And each team has their sole win over the No. 3 ranked Tennessee Volunteers.

This will really be a decisive matchup for the Hoos and Longhorns. Texas is set to have redshirt freshman right-hander Pete Hansen on the mound as their starter on June 24.
