The visiting process for the LSU Tigers elite five-star safety commit and Ponchatoula High School product Jacoby Mathews wound up being far from over this month. One of the first big events of note for Mathews this month was his official visit with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies.

The 6-foot-2 and 205-pound Louisiana native safety gave his commitment to head coach Ed Orgeron and the 2019 National Champion Tigers back on April 23, 2021. But he very much appears to still be keeping his options open, as have a number of other current and former LSU commits in the past few months.

Amid a busy month of visits for Mathews were two unofficial visits with LSU in Baton Rouge, one with Texas A&M, and one with Florida. He also is still anticipated to take an unofficial or official visit with Sark and the Longhorns by the end of the 2021 season.

That is something that the Longhorns should get done sooner rather than later, though. Texas would likely need to get a visit on the books with Mathews before he gets his sights set somewhere else, or too locked into LSU.

Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, and Florida, are four of the more than 30 schools on Mathews’ lengthy offer sheet. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet are the Auburn Tigers, Alabama, Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.

And Mathews ranks as the nation’s No. 29 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 safety, and No. 3 prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 55 high school prospect, No. 3 safety, and No. 4 prospect out of Louisiana.
