An interesting turn for the newest quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, as the former Texas football senior star Sam Ehlinger was seen working out with Patrick Mahomes. The former Texas Tech Red Raider and Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Mahomes was spotted in the gym working out with the Colts rookie.

And after the picture on social media surfaced of Ehlinger working out with Mahomes, the responses started pouring in. You had to expect that social media would react strongly (in a positive sense for the most part) to a picture like this surfacing during the offseason.

There wasn’t much additional that surfaced about what happened at this workout, or why it happened in the first place, but this is still a cool sight for Longhorns and Colts fans nonetheless.

Now just a couple of months into his run with the Colts during offseason workouts and camp, Ehlinger is trying to make his way up the quarterback depth chart. But he still likely has a long way to go before anything significant can happen for him in the Colts’ quarterback room.

The Colts picked up Ehlinger with the 218th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He will join the likes of the former Washington Huskies and Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jacob Eason and the former Philadelphia Eagle and North Dakota State Bison Carson Wentz with the Colts’ signal callers this year.

The hope for head coach Frank Reich and the Colts is that they will have a deeper quarterback room that can give them a good foothold for the future at the position. They turned to potential future Hall-of-Famer Philip Rivers as their starting quarterback in what was essentially a one-year rental last season.

Texas is losing one of their most productive quarterbacks in program history with Ehlinger taking his talents to the NFL. During his four years playing for Texas, Ehlinger registered 11,436 career passing yards, 94 passing touchdowns, 27 interceptions, 1,903 rushing yards, and 33 rushing touchdowns.
